We are committed to providing world class rust prevention solutions for industries across the globe. Environmentally responsible VpCI® corrosion control technologies, seek to deliver cost-effective, user-friendly integrated solutions for rust problems in the packaging, metalworking, construction, electronics, oil and gas, and many other industries. VCI molecules provide a unique and distinctive rust prevention action that no other manufacturer of rust inhibitors can match.
To have the best results when coating with Micro Rust Inhibiting Coatings, performing the right surface preparation will be key to success. We provide cleaners, rust removers, rust converters and adhesion enhancers with environmentally firendly formulations and which are VOC compliant. The standard surface preparation process generally recommended by us is as follows:
For more information please visit our rust removers and surface preparation webpage.
A good anti rust primer provides an important baseline for any coatings system, not less so when corrosion protection is at stake. Primers provide good adhesion to the underlying ferrous and non ferrous metal surface and also offer good inner-coat adhesion to bond well with the topcoat. The end result is a stronger barrier against corrosion. Most standard applications require a primer and a topcoat; however, protection can be further enhanced with a two component primer system applied before the topcoat. We can offer specific primers to coat difficult substates such as stainless steel and galvanized steel.
VpCI®-373 is a fast drying,
water-based acrylic one coat
anti rust primer that provides
phenomenal adhesion on
tough to adhere to surfaces
including aluminum, galvanized, stainless steel and other plated
surfaces. The complex mixture
of non-toxic, organic rust inhibitors
offers protection that competes
with most paints and zinc-rich
primers. Provides multi-metal
protection. Available in clear
and olive green only.
Substrate should be free of grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints, drawing compounds, rust inhibitors, or any other surface contamination that could affect adhesion. VpCI®-440 or similar phosphatizing pre-treatment should be used for production line applications. For structural steel, the following minimum surface preparation standards are recommended: NACE #3 SSPC – SP6 .
VpCI-373 may be diluted with water up to 10% by volume to modify the viscosity. Please contact Cortec for more specific dilution recommendations. Store VpCI-373 in a sealed container and do not allow the product to freeze. Do not store at temperatures above 100 °F (38 °C). Product shelf life is 1 year.

VpCI®-396 is a high solids aromatic moisture cure urethane. VpCI®-396 is a direct to metal anti rust primer for multimetal protection. VpCI®-396 should be top coated with an aliphatic urethane top coat for best results. In addition to the outstanding barrier protection, VpCI®-396 also contains Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors for additional protection. VpCI®-396 is suitable for immersed structures when applied over VpCI® CorrVerter® for marginally prepared surfaces; such as ballast tanks, storage tanks, or holding tanks containing hydrocarbons to high salinity solutions.VpCI®-396 forms a very hard, but flexible rust inhibitor coating that cures in the presence of moisture in the air. For best results the curing conditions required are a relative humidity between 20% and 80% with temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and below 120°F (50°C). Great overall rust inhibitor paint for steel.

Substrate should be free of grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints, drawing compounds, rust inhibitors, or any other surface contamination that could affect adhesion. VpCI®-440 or similar phosphatizing pre-treatment should be used for production line applications. For structural steel, the following minimum surface preparation standards are recommended: NACE #3 SSPC – SP6
A wash primer such as VpCI®-373 applied at 0.5-1.0 mils (12.5-25 microns) is recommended before applying VpCI®-384 to aluminum, galvanized, or plated substrates. Consult a Cortec Representative and/or test the system adhesion prior to full scale application.
Store VpCI®-384 in a sealed container. Do not store at temperatures above 100 °F (38 °C). Product shelf life is 1 year.

The removable rust inhibitor coatings that we offer deliver exceptional multimetal protection for outside applications and salt spray resistance. These removable anti rust coatings are an advanced, safe replacement for hazardous oil-based products. They are an
excellent choice for long-term indoor protection that lasts up to 5 years and short to medium-term (6-24 months) unsheltered outdoor protection.
These completely safe and easy to use
removable anti rust coatings cure to a soft film and eventually harden. They are very efficient in
SO2 and H2S environments. The products leave a translucent, waxy coating
that are easily removable, and are low
in VOC’s. Cortec’s removable coatings
can be easily removed with alkaline
cleaners, such as Cortec® VpCI®-414.
Ferrous and non ferrous metals protected against rust are: aluminum, steel,
cast iron, copper alloy and tin plated
steel.
VpCI®-368 is a fast drying,
solvent -based temporary
wax-like anti rust coating that provides
protection in harsh, outdoor,
unsheltered applications yet
is easily removed with alkaline
cleaners such as VpCI®-414.
Provides ferrous and non ferrous metals with powerful corrosion protection.
Can be matched to some custom
colors.

VpCI®-389 is a water-based, temporary coating which
provides excellent protection for outside applications and
salt-spray resistance. VpCI®-389 is an environmentally
friendly replacement to oil-based products.
VpCI®-389 is an excellent choice for long-term indoor
protection (up to 5 years*) and short to medium-term (6-24
months*) unsheltered outdoor protection. This product cures
to a soft film and eventually hardens. VpCI®-389 can be
easily removed with alkaline cleaners, such as Cortec® VpCI®-414.
The surface must be equivalent to ARS. Low A-3 and higher
or SSPCs SPs 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 10. The recommended film
thickness range is 1-2 mils (25-50 microns).
Can be diluted with water for sprayability/application
purposes; most working ranges are between 1:1 to 1:8
(VpCI®-389:Water). Mix VpCI®-389 prior to use. VpCI®-389 can be applied by
spray, brush, roll, or dip. Normal WFT of 3-6-mils (75-150
microns) yields 1-2-mils (25-50 microns) DFT.
*Depends on conditions and/or film thickness.
