Primers - Providing a good base for your anti-corrosion coatings system.

A good primer provides an important baseline for any coatings system, not less so when corrosion protection is at stake. Primers provide good adhesion to the underlying metal surface and also offer good inner-coat adhesion to bond well with the topcoat. The end result is a stronger barrier against corrosion. Most standard applications require a primer and a topcoat; however, protection can be further enhanced with a two component primer system applied before the topcoat.

CorrVerter® - Single component water based rust converter

CorrVerter® is a fast drying, water-based one coat system (primer) that converts rusted surfaces to a hydrophobic passive layer and prevents further rusting thru the unique formulation of chelating agents and PVC resins. It provides long term corrosion protection by itself or by topcoating for extended performance.
Application: Substrate should be free of grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints, drawing compounds, rust inhibitors, or any other surface contamination that could affect adhesion. For production line applications, use VpCI®-440 or similar phosphatizing pre-treatment.


EcoShield® 386 Water Based Acrylic Primer and Topcoat

386


EcoShield® 386 is a fast drying, water-based acrylic one coat system (topcoat) that can be applied DTM (Direct to Metal) and provides protection in harsh, outdoor, unsheltered applications. The complex mixture of non-toxic, organic inhibitors offers protection that competes with most paints and zinc-rich primers. Provides multi-metal protection. Excellent UV resistance. Can be matched to most custom colors. NSN 8030-01-481-8897 (clear only).
Substrate should be free of grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints, drawing compounds, rust inhibitors, or any other surface contamination that could affect adhesion. For production line applications, use VpCI®-440 or similar phosphatizing pre-treatment. For structural steel applications, Cortec® recommends a minimum of a NACE #3/ SSPC-SP6 commercial blast clean. Consult Cortec® and/or test system adhesion prior to full scale application. A wash primer such as VpCI®-373 green applied at 0.5-1.0 mils (12.5-25 microns) is recommended before applying the EcoShield® 386 to aluminum, galvanized or plated substrates. Other recommended primers include VpCI®-375, 395 and 396 depending on coating requirements. When solvent based topcoats are applied over EcoShield® 386, compatibility must be checked.


VpCI® 373 Wash primer for galvanized surfaces

VpCI-373 is a water-based wash primer used for bonding other primers and coatings such as VpCI-386, to a variety of metal substrates. VpCI-373 is applied at an extremely thin thickness of 0.5-1.0 mil (12.5-25 microns) DFT. When used in conjunction with topcoats, this product can extend protection significantly.

VpCI® 396 Solvent based single component urethane based primer

VpCI®-396 is a fast drying, solvent-based moisture cure urethane one coat system (primer & topcoat) that can be applied DTM (Direct to Metal) and provides protection in harsh, outdoor, unsheltered applications. The complex mixture of non-toxic, organic inhibitors offers protection that competes with most paints and zinc-rich primers. Provides multi-metal protection. Can be matched to most custom colors.
Substrate should be free of grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints, drawing compounds, rust inhibitors, or any other surface contamination that could affect adhesion. For production line applications, use VpCI-440 or similar phosphatizing pre-treatment.

VpCI®-375 Acrilyc Water Based Topcoat

VpCI®-375 is a unique, water-based acrylic one coat system (primer & topcoat) that successfully provides protection in harsh, outdoor, unsheltered applications. The complex mixture of non-toxic, organic inhibitors offers protection that can compete with most paints and zinc-rich primers.

Application: VpCI®-375 when applied in 4 mil DFT can be used as a topcoat & primer. VpCI®-375 can also be used as a topcoat with Cortec® VpCI®-374 primer. When solvent-based topcoats are applied over VpCI®-375, compatibility must be checked.


VpCI-386 Water Based DTM Economical Acrylic coating

VpCI®-386 is a fast drying, water-based acrylic one coat system (topcoat) that can be applied DTM (Direct to Metal) and provides protection in harsh, outdoor, unsheltered applications. The complex mixture of non-toxic, organic inhibitors offers protection that competes with most paints and zinc-rich primers. Provides multi-metal protection. Excellent UV resistance. VpCI®- 386 is weldable and can be used to keep surfaces corrosionfree prior to welding. Can be matched to most custom colors. NSN 8030-01-481-8897 (clear only)..

Two Component Topcoats

VpCI®-2026

VpCI®-2026 Top Coat is a 100% solids, 2-component, novolac epoxy coating designed for environments that require a high degree of chemical or temperature resistance. VpCI®-2026 Top Coat is available in clear, and can be colored with any of the VpCI®-2026 HPCS colorants.
The recommended application of this product involves pouring it in a narrow line directly onto the surface and then spreading it with a squeege. Spread the coating in a continuous manner from one side of the area being coated to the other. Immediately follow with a 3/8” (0.95cm) nap shed resistance roller. The VpCI®– 2026 must be rolled as evenly as possible. To do this, roll forward in a straight line and then roll the same column backwards. Overlap the next column to be rolled by 1/2” (1.27cm) with the previously rolled column. Avoid excess agitation of the liquids with the roller. This will lessen chances of bubbling of the final film. The individual(s) applying the VpCI®-2026 Top Coat should be wearing “spiked sandals”.

 

Removable Rust preventive Coatings

Cortec’s removable coatings deliver exceptional multimetal protection for outside applications and salt-spray resistance. These removable coatings are an advanced, safe replacement for hazardous oil-based products. They are an excellent choice for long-term indoor protection that lasts up to 5 years and short to medium-term (6-24 months) unsheltered outdoor protection.
These completely safe and easy to use coatings cure to a soft film and eventually harden. They are very efficient in SO2 and H2S environments. The products leave a translucent, waxy coating that are easily removable, and are low in VOC’s. Cortec’s removable coatings can be easily removed with alkaline cleaners, such as Cortec® VpCI®-414. Metals protected are: aluminum, steel, cast iron, copper alloy and tin plated steel.

Cortec’s removable coatings are the best solution on the market for applications such as equipment lay-up, parts processing protection, overseas shipping, maintenance repairs, and parts storage. Traditional coatings rely on sacrificial metals (zinc, chromates, and aluminum) for inhibition. Due to the large particle size of these inhibitors, gaps exist which allow corrosion to start and eventually expand, causing coating failure.
Cortec’s removable coatings use the patented VpCI® technology to protect the metal substrate with a tight bonding molecular structure. This system eliminates the gaps which occur with traditional inhibitors and prevents corrosion from starting. With environmentally safe VpCI® technology, the equipment and products will get superior corrosion protection.
