Reciprocating compressors are the most common type you could find on shops and Industries. Their safe and reliable operation requires they are correctly lubricated with suitable products that are able to protect from wear all of the main components including, but not limited to: cylinders, pistons, plain bearings holding the crankshaft, etc.. Many reciprocating compressors use one lubrication system to address all their needs. On this type of air compressors, lubricants are supposed to reduce friction in between moving parts avoiding wear. The oil is supposed to lubricate the pistons inside the cylinders and also the bearings of the crankshaft that moves the pistons. The oil is also supposed to refrigerate pistons and cylinders of this type of machinery by driving the heat off these surfaces and into the water cooling systems to dissipate it. Finally the lubricant is supposed to prevent corrosion. This is specially challenging given that compressors naturally generate hear and high humidity conditions which act as corrosion catalysts. Sealing is also a function that is required for an adequate lubricant. Inside the cylinders of a reciprocating compressor high pressure is generated. The lubricant must produce a film that is resilient enough to prevent air from escaping in between the piston rings and the cylinders' walls.
Same as with reciprocating compressors, oils used for rotary compressors, must lubricate, refrigerate, protect and seal. Usually viscosity grades from ISO VG 32 and up to ISO VG 100 with a high viscosity index are specified in this type of equipment. Vane type or screw compressors, which are subcategories of rotary compressors, normally demand higher viscosity lubricants to maintain an adecuate hydrodynamic film and good sealing on the vanes' edges and the cylinder's wall.
Rotor Bearings are lubricated by the same oil with an independant feeding system. Which ever lubrication system is used, these types of compressors require an oil separator to remove the lubriciant from the compressed air and return it to the lubrication system.
CAMCO® FMO XL-46 is a unique formulation derived from polyalphaolefin (PAO) synthetic
hydrocarbon lubricant and other advanced synthetic fluids and proprietary additives for
improved lubrication at high and low temperatures, reduced volatility, and compatability
with mineral oils. An advanced additive system provides superior equipment life and longer
drain intervals than previously achievable with PAO's or mineral oils.
Formulation meets 21 CFR 178.3570 requirements for lubricants with the possibility of
incidental food contact. All components meet NSF H-1 requirements.
The FMO XL-46 food grade air compressor oil has been field tested and has shown that it
can last up to 2 times longer than other synthetic PAO food grade oils on the market.
Most commonly used for compressor, light duty Hydraulic fluid, bearing and circulating
systems (coolant and heat transfer) applications.
Formulated to extend life for applications requiring excellent oxidative, rust and corrosion
resistance, low foaming and good water separation characteristics
CAMCO® XL-46 - 15 is a synthetic ISO VG 15 Compressor Oil that is also suitable for multipurpose lubrications in the food industry. Long operating times due to high temperature and oxidation stability. Good wear protection. Resistant to water vapours, alkali and acid disinfectants and cleaning agents. Tasteless and odourless.
Formulation acc. to the FDA guideline 21 CFR
178.3570. Registrated by the NSF in category H1 for the
use in the food industry if an incidental contact is technically inevitable. Through
optimum additivation against oxidation and aging economically extended operating
times. Resistant to hot and cold water, steam, common disinfection and cleaning
agents. It presents strong adhering properties.
For optimum performance clean thoroughly the lubrication point first mechanically and then
with an appropriate food safe cleaner. Before initial filling of gears remove
corrosion protection agent. Fill gear so that the dipping teeth receive lubricant for
sure. Apply sufficient amount with a brush, dripping oiler, by dipping or central
lubrication systems. Instructions of the gear and machine manufacturer have to be
observed. Relubrication intervals and amount to be defined according to service
conditions. Don't mix with other lubricants.

The CAMCO® 717-HT is a 2 Stage Severly Hydrotreated mineral oil, which takes on the characteristics of Synthetic oil. The 717-HT is extremely refined to a 99.9% pure base oil. This process removes all impurities and all wax, so there is no carbon forming ability. CAMCO® 717-HT has an additive package to enhance performance, while protecting the equipment from corrosion, oxidation and anti-foam. This gives you the highest quality ammonia oil to date.
CAMCO® 717 Series has a unique closed molecular structure making it extremely thermal and oxidatively stable, extending the drain interval several thousand hours over conventional ammonia refrigeration lubricants. It has lubricity twice that of conventional refrigeration oils for reciprocating, screw and rotary vane compressors, resulting in the following:
