Oil layer rust preventatives are still very popular to prevent corrosion, but it is still rare to find VCI rust preventive additives in most formulations. The main reason for their popularity is that they are usually affordable, easy to apply, they tend to require less surface preparation (in many cases they clean and protect at the same time), are finger print corrosion resistant and they've been along for a very long time. The ongoing trend is to try and replace classic mineral/solvent based formulations for renewable oil based formulations (canola oil and soybean oil mainly). Within the RP Oil range we have available, not only products that work through moisture or water displacement, but also some formulations that work by forming an emulsion or sometimes a gel with moisture. These type of products are more effective in the long term specially to avoid corrosion in porous metals such as cast iron. The most common type of criteria to determine the most suitable RP Oil are: protection time, type of metals that need protection, particle size (avoiding filter clogging), how much vapor phase protection is required, environmetal concerns, suitability of the product to provide protection in working or idle machinery, food grade requirements and others. No matter the application, we will always have the most cost effective product that covers all the requirements set forth by our customers.
VCI Oil Based Concentrate Anti Rust Additive
VpCI®-329 is a vapor rust inhibiting concentrate for use with lubricating and preservation oils. Provides excellent protection in sheltered outdoor/indoor conditions. VpCI®-329 protects in two ways by offering a tenacious film, which clings to the metal surfaces, as well as vapor phase inhibitors into the air above the oil. The vapors condense and form a protective barrier on metal surfaces that are not in contact with the oil. This combination allows complete protection to internal system parts. It's compatible with mineral oils and PAO based oils. It is an excellent option to prevent rust inside gearboxes that are stored idle for a long period of time. Conforms to MIL-P-46002B, MIL-I-85062, MIL-C-16173D (Grade 3).

VpCI®-329 D is a ready-to-use oil-based rust preventive. VpCI®-
329 D provides excellent protection to metals in indoor and
outdoor sheltered conditions. VpCI®-329 D protects in two unique
ways. First, oil-soluble corrosion inhibitors offer a tenacious
film which clings to metal surfaces, providing excellent contact
corrosion protection. In addition to this film barrier, VpCI®-329 D
releases vapor phase corrosion inhibitors into the air that attach

EcoLine® 3690 is a biobased (vegetable oil based) ready to use temporary corrosion protection coating designed for severe marine and high humidity conditions that is biodegradable. Based on canola oil, EcoLine® 3690 contains 72% USDA certified biobased content and is part of the USDA BioPreferred® Program – Mandatory Federal Purchasing Initiative. NSF HX-1 Rust Preventive Additive for Food Grade Lubricants
M-533 FG is a premium rust inhibitor for petroleum and
synthetic lubricants, greases, and rust preventative fluids.
It provides excellent demulsibility, filterability and
is compatible with a wide range of additives and base
stocks. Being NSF HX-1 certified, M-533 FG is permitted
for use in food plants where incidental contact with food
is expected as a suitable additive.
M-533 FG is designed for formulating food grade lubricants
that require rust protection, demulsibility, filterability, and
water resistance at low treat levels. Although it is approved
for use up to 10% if required, M-533 FG passes the ASTM
D 665B* rust test in white mineral oil and PAO base oils at 0.10-0.20% additive level.

Ashless Corrosion Inhibitor Oil Additive
M-531 T is an oil-based package of ashless corrosion inhibitors additive
that can be mixed into petroleum and synthetic lubricants in
turbine systems during lay-up. Using M-531 T in turbine oil or
other industrial lubricant applications that require ashless oils
protects systems from the rust that could otherwise lead to failure
of equipment components. Corrosion inhibitors in M-531 T
protect metal surfaces with which they are in direct contact and
also release molecules in the vapor phase. These Vapor phase
